The New England Musical Heritage InitiativeComposers worldwide are invited to create compositions that reflect the lfie of New Englanders from early history to the present, and then to use this music to support public school string education. The Initiative has three main components: A composition competition open to composers worldwide; visits to participating schools by the winning composers and NESE musicians, who talk about the creative process and collaborate with students and music faculty; and performances fo the winning compositions, both by the school orchestras and by NESE with selected students playing side by side with professionals. A handbook and study guide suggests interdisciplinary projects based on subjects that provide inspiration for the chosen works. Past funding has been provided by the Horizon Foundation, New England Biolabs Foundation, Tomfohrde Foundation, Harpley Foundation, and National Endowment for the Arts. |
